We are bringing together national datasets and incorporating new data-sets to provide novel insights on people experiencing visual impairment.

DEMOGRAPHICS DATA SUMMARY

The visualization showcases a map of the U.S split up by states and colored different shades of blue to exhibit prevalence of the population in the U.S. who have specified they experience visual impairment defined by the American Community Survey.

 

The national average for the total number of people reporting visual impairment is 7,774,800. California and Texas have the greatest count at 782,100 and 680,500 respectively. Vermont and Wyoming have the least amount of people who have reported visual impairment, with the count at 11,900 and 12,300 respectively. 

The national average for the total prevalence of people reporting visual impairment is 2.50%. The graph can also be switched to view prevalence of people who reported visual impairment. Puerto Rico and West Virginia have the highest prevalence of people reporting visual impairment with the percentage of 7.33% and 4.42%. 

The line graph on the bottom exhibits the change in the population over from the year 2010 to 2017.

The data was gathered from the American Community Survey for the years of 2010 to 2017.
